WHAT IS IT: Medieval fantasy series based on author George R. R. Martin’s best-selling “A Song of Ice and Fire” series of fantasy novels.
WHO'S IN IT: Sean Bean, Mark Addy, Michelle Fairley and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
WHEN & WHERE WILL IT PREMIERE: April 17 on HBO
HBO’s series “Game of Thrones,” based on the novels by George R. R. Martin, shocked its viewers by stating it would not return until April 2012 – a full 10 months after wrapping up its premiere season. That first season was so popular, it propelled the book to the New York Times best seller list in January 2011 – where it reached No. 1 in July 2011. It only took 15 years for the book to get there.
The series itself is classified as medieval fantasy. It was marked by excellent acting from the the show’s lead character, portrayed by Sean Bean, as well as much of the supporting cast. Yet, I certainly have no need to speak for the quality of the work – the 13 Emmy nominations can do that for me.
Season two will begin with the Seven Kingdoms on the brink of civil war; an army outside the gates of their capitol. This while two unknown enemies are gaining strength outside their borders. For those that enjoy action and suspense, I expect season two will leave us on the edge of our seats with each of its 10 episodes.
