W55034 Wallingford 21-06-25
Bubble Car W55034 waits at Wallingford with a service to Cholsey on 21st June 2025. The elderly unit is mainline registered and owned by LSL who bought is for use as a R/L vehicle. They've placed it on loan to the Cholsey & Wallingford Railway.
The Pressed Steel Class 121 was new to Bristol Philips Marsh in January 1961 and stayed on the region until May 1986 when it went to Tyseley after having spells at all the major WR unit depots in the previous 25 years. It was renumbered to DB977829 when it entered departmental use in 1992, and carried on as a sandite vehicle until 20th July 1996 when it was withdrawn.
In January 2009 it was reinstated to mainline traffic with Chiltern Trains for use on the Aylesbury to Princes Risborough shuttle service, a task it performed until 2017 when it was replaced by a Turbo unit. At this stage it was bought by LSL and based at Crewe.
