37894 Pontycymer 13th May 1993
37894 descends the Garw valley with a Pontycymer to Margam reclaimed coal train on 13th May 1993. The coal was destined for the Steel Supply siding at Skewen where it would be blended into a mix with other coal so it could be burnt at Aberthaw power station. These trains were regular at the time and as time went on changed to a set of HAA;s and ran directly to Aberthaw for blending there. The last coal train from the reclamation site ran on 6 March 1997, with the last train, the "Garw Guru" charter running on 7th April 1997.
The railway here is now part of the Garw Valley Railway with a cycle path following it from Tondu.
Another old scan from my Fotopic file which needs updating.
