37375 St Blazey Gate 18th May 2000
Seen in the last knockings of sun Mainline Blue 37375 hauls 7Z07 weed killing train past St Blazey Gate on 18th May 2000.
The annual weedkiller train always toured the South West in early spring and was one to watch out for, its regular 7Z07 head code always a give-away in any notices etc. On 18th April 2000 37667 is on the rear of 7Z07, the 17:52 Penzance to Par with 37375 providing the front end power. The train had been stabled at Long Rock (Penzance) all day and was luckily running to time as my young family were patiently waiting in the car. It appears to be the Schering/Agrevo Weed-killing train which for many years had been hauled by Hunslet Barclay Class 20's.
The rebuilt Mk 1 passenger coaches were introduced in 1994 replacing the old relics that had been previously used. In order from the tanks are: SA99907 (7203-S16203), SA99908 (7160-M16160), SA99909 (18401-M25401) & SA99910 (18574-M25574) Former BR Mk 1 coach number in brackets. The TTA's tank wagons were numbered 59690-59692. sadly 37375 was broken up at Kingsbury on 11th January 2008.
The Schering/Agrevo train was exported to Belgium after it was replaced by MPV’s in the early 2000’s and is believe to have been scrapped abroad. It was based at Chesterton Junction for many years and later Peterborough.
The train still runs and a MPV will be returning for the 2025 season crewed by DB Cargo drivers.
