09003 Barry Docks 28th August 2001
09003 in seen hauling containers across Wimbourne Road near Barry No 2 dock for onward movement on 6B39 14:32 Barry Docks ABP Shipment to Newport Alexandra Dock Jn on 28th August 2001. Once at Cadoxton the train was taken forward by 37248 with the 09 returning to Barry depot.
The FCAs with containers mainly brought silica from abroad via either Southampton, Tilbury or London Gateway. Outbound all sorts of loaded chemicals came out in tanktainers. DB gave up on the traffic in mid 201x's but Freightliner still feed the Dow Corning chemical work with traffic from Tilbury and Southampton.
D3667 was built at BR Darlington and entered traffic in February 1959 originally allocated to Eastleigh depot. Renumber in 1974 as 09003 when it was still a Southern region locomotive like most 09's in the 1960's and 70's. By the 1990's it had migrated to South Wales and worked at numerous locations including Avonmouth on the other side of the River Severn. During an overhaul in the late 90's it gained EWS livery and lost its high level pipes fitted many years earlier for shunting Southern 's EMU's. Eventually withdrawn in November 2010 it was soon stripped of parts and broken up at European Metal Reprocessing, Kingsbury in September 2011.
