66141 Portbury 24th April 2002

66141 (now 66786) arrives at Portbury with 6V26 13:48 Washwood Heath to Portbury Coal Terminal on 24th April 2002. The railway line from Parson Street to Portishead from which the spur to Portbury branches off from finally shut in 1985 after a series of special trains as part of the "GW150" celebrations, freight having finished in 1981, and passenger services in 1964.

Fast forward to 2000 and the six miles between Parson Street and Portbury Dock Junction was completely re-laid with new a connection built to Royal Portbury Docks. The docks has two areas, the coal loading pads and an auto terminal, currently used for steel imports.

The total cost of this work was £21 million. with the line officially opening on 21st December 2001 with 66250 hauling the inaugural imported coal train.

The trees that had been planted on the bank took hold and this view off the M5 bridge is now of a small wood, with only a small area of the railway showing.
