Scunthorpe Steelworks Depot 10th June 2023

A cabless parts donor Di8 8.718 is on the left partly hidden from view. Stabled on road 4 is Di8 8.703 with 8.702 on road 3 with the hulk on the right believed to be a Yorkshire Engine Co Janus 0-6-0

Twenty of these Maschinenbau Kiel GmbH (Siemens) loco's were built in 1996/7 for use by Norwegian State Railways with the 2110hp loco's utilising a Caterpillar 3516 DI-TA engine. By 2002 they were working for CargoNet in 2002 when the cargo division of the NSR was privatised. In 2011 ten machines were sold to GB Railfreight for use at the Redcar Steel works after the company won a contract to operate the Teeside steelworks internal railway. When the steelworks was closed in 2015 the loco's headed south to Tata's Scunthorpe steelworks where 7-8 are still in service.
