507's Sandhills 09-01-23
Two elderly Class 507's cross at Sandhills, a suburban station near central Liverpool and part of Merseyrails Northern line. On the left 507025 was working 2O31, the 13:46 Liverpool Central to Ormskirk whilst on the right 507031 works 2G88, the 13:43 Kirkby to Liverpool Central on 9th January 2023.
Thirty three Class 507's were built between September 1978 and October 1979 being constructed at BREL York as a follow on order from the Class 313 units.
On 23 January 2023, 777049 was of 53 new Stadler built units to enter service . Initially the Kirby and Ormskirk services will go over to the new order with all Merseyrail service using the Swiss built units by the end of the year. The two 507's will soon be heading to the scrap yard, probably at Newport docks (Sims)
