Park Royal - Machynlleth August 1982

By 1982 my interest in railways had wained so I have very little info on this picture of a Park Royal Class 103 DMU stabled at Machynlleth depot in the summer of 1982. From memory I was passing by on my way home from Llandudno after a family holiday.

A bit of research on Flickr trying to compare the dents and rust on the front reveals this to be M50402 a DMBS from the batch M50395 - M50414. It was by built by Park Royal Ltd at the Crossley Motor works in Stockport and new to 6G (Llandudno Junction) W/E 17th May 1958 where it stayed for a few week before being reallocated to 3C, Rycroft. It stayed working around Birmingham mainly on Walsall services until January 1967 when it was sent to Chester along with the rest of the Class's 103's for North Wales and Cambrian Coast services. It was withdrawn in December 1982 and eventully scrapped at Vic berries, Leicester. All reports of the set in the 1980's reveal its partner was DTC M56158 so it's assumed to be the trailer car in the photo.
