M61155 Broad Street 23rd March 1982
Class 501 DMBS M61155 arrives (or possibly leaves) at Broad Street with a service from Richmond on 23rd March 1982. The units mainly worked Euston - Watford and Broad Street to Richmond & Watford service until withdrawn in May 1985. For a short while they were replaced by Southern Region 2 EPB's on the Richmond services which lasted until the station was finally shut on 30th June 1986. A total of 57 three-car 650 DC Class 501 were built at BR Eastleigh in 1957/58 and based at Croxley Green near Watford. After withdrawn they were replaced by Class 313's released from the GN Region.
My memory of travelling on the units throws up the bars on the windows to stop you loosing your head at the narrow Hapstead Tunnel along with the black greasy head pads on the seats covered in years of Brylcream!
