180104 Twerton (Bath) March 8th 2002

A then new 180104 is seen leaving Twerton on a Swindon to Bristol Temple Meads test run on March 8th 2002. The fleet had been excepted into service the previous December. First Great Western ordered fourteen of these diesel-hydraulic units from Alstom at Washwood Heath in 2000/01. The generic name for them is "Coradia" and similar to the more successful Class 175 operated by TFW. Not renown for their reliability and after recurring technical problems FGW handed them all back to leasing company Angel Trains in 2008/09. Three units then had a spell at Northern Rail between 2008 and 2012 and eventually taken on by Grand Central and Hull trains. In 2021 ten units are with Grand Central and the remaining four with Midland Mainline.

This classic location is now heavily overgrown.
