101692 Romily 20th June 2002
101692 (53253 53170) shortly after leaving Romily with a Marple to Manchester Piccadilly service on 20th June 2002
Built at the Met-Cam works in Birmingham and released to traffic in 1957 as E50253 & E50170 both these cars spent many years allocated to the Eastern Region, E50170 working out of Darlington and E50253 from Hull Botanic Gardens. Over the years they spread their wings with spells in Scotland, Norwich and the North West. By 1996 the driving cars became power twin set 101692 and transferred to the Scottish region where the unit became popular after being painted in the unique Strathclyde PTE livery of blue with orange and yellow stripes. This was done by Scotrail for use on services between Motherwell and Cumbernauld. Eventually the pair were transferred to Longsight for Manchester area service with First North Western but remained in the unique Strathclyde livery. 101692 was withdrawn on the final day of Class 101 operations, 31st December 2003 and entered preservation as the Ecclesbourne Railway and restored to original condition as seen in the picture below.
