158854 Llandecwyn 16th April 2003
central trains liveried 158854 crosses the old Pont Briwet rail/road viaduct near Llandecwyn 16th April 2003 with a Pwllheli to Machynlleth service. The original bridge was constructed by the Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway in 1867 and lasted to 1932 when it was extensively rebuilt by the GWR. The road section (behind the train) was always privately owned and therefore required a toll to be paid to cross. It became a Grade 2 listed structure but as time went on it deteriorated to such a level where it was causing delays to trains and road traffic so a decision was made to rebuild from scratch. Work commenced in 2013 and the new structure finally opened in summer of 2015 to both mode of transport.
