37701 Gatcombe 19th November 1999
37701 runs along the river bank at the popular location of Gatcombe with 6E21, the 08:20 Baglan Bay to Humber. The train was always one to go out for but was erratic in its running so required you to pitch up and wait with your fingers crossed. The train conveys a decent load of discharged "Propylene" pressure tanks and ran for a number of years even becoming Class 66 hauled for a while. Once the chemical plant at Baglan Bay shut in 2004 the tanks were scrapped at Booths, Rotherham with some haste, the pressure tanks with their thick walled barrels obviously had a high scrap value. 19th November 1999
At the time I was trying different films in my Pentax 6 x 7 camera and this picture was taken on Kodak Ektachrome E200 (120) which although improved the shutter speeds had a yellowish tint which can be seen in the shot. My notes show I used 3 rolls and then gave up with it.
