27033 Glasgow Queen Street 27th March 1982

27033 ticks over at the buffer stops at Glasgow Queen Street after bringing the ECS in for what is believed to be 2L27, the 06:40 Glasgow QS - Dundee service on 27th March 1982 with 37114 at the helm.

Built as D5381 in Birmingham by BRCW, the 1,250hp Sulzer powered Type 2s was new to Cricklewood (14A) in 1962 for use on Midland Region to help oust steam from the London area. In February 1970 it was was one of the last to head north and allocated to Glasgows Eastfield depot where it stayed for many years. The loco was withdrawn February 1986 and stored at its then home depot of Haymarket. It was eventually moved to Thornton Yard with a number of other withdrawn locos where it was cut in February 1987 by Vic Berry Ltd.

The loco suffered a severe cab fire in early 1979 and subsequently received a replacement cab from 27201 which had been withdrawn with fire damage in January 1979. The cab is the one seen in the picture above.
