59206 Bishops Lydard 10th March 2000

An unusual visitor to Bishops Lydeard on the West Somerset Railway on 10th March 2000 was EWS's 59206 "Pride of Ferrybridge" with a 6Z38 12:20 Doniford to Westbury service. This was one of a handful of trains at the time that were used to deliver boulders to stop coastal erosion of the railway near Doniford Halt. Once unloaded the trains ran to Blue Anchor so as to run round the set of MEA wagons ready for the trip back to Merehead Quarry for reloading. One of the boulders has been left inside the 5th wagon, presumably the grab used for unloading couldn't grab it. It appears 59206 has been bashed on the roof of the leading cab probably at a loading bunker somewhere.
