50009 Bromsgrove 30th June 1991
"Conqueror" 50009 runs through Bromsgrove after a high speed decent of the Lucky incline with a southbound InterCity service at 18:35 on Tuesday 30th June 1981. The locomotive was new to traffic on 19th march 1968 and based off Crewe diesel depot as a mixed traffic machine. By 1976 it had been transfered to the Western Region as a replacement for the D1000's being withdrawn at the time. The highlight of its career came on 8th May 1978 when it was named "Conqueror" after the nuclear submarine of the time. By autumn 1981 it was in Doncaster works for a mid life refurbishment which bought it another 10 years of use before being withdrawn on 11th January 1991. It didn't last long as it was scrapped by Cooper Metals at Old Oak Common depot in London in February 1991.
