37701 Resolven 13th April 1994
37701 runs through Rosolven with a loaded MGR for Aberthaw power station on 13th April 1994. Resolven is half way down the Vale Of Neath branch which runs from Neath & Brecon Junction to the disposal point at Cwmgrach. This had opened in 1996 after a new drift mine was sunk into the hillside near to where Aberpergwm colliery had been which had been shut down in 1985. This required the 9 mile line to be reopened and was busy for a number of years until once again the coal demand dropped to a level that it was uneconomic to sustain production. The line Is unlikely to see trains here again. The Vale Of Neath originnaly ran to Aberdare and beyond, joining up with the Tower Colliery branch at Hirwaun which is also now sadly shut.
