37603 Spean Bridge 6th September 2000

37603 hauls a train of aluminium ingots on 7D54 11:58 Fort William to Coatbridge on 6th September 2000, seen a few miles out of Fort William near Spean Bridge. The ingots were bound for Alcan at Rogerstone near Newport. The EPS liveried 37 was at the time on hire to Freightliner. Built at the English Electric Vulcan Foundry it was new to traffic on 18th May 1962 as D6739, initially allocated to Hull Dairycoates. In the 70’s it was renumbered to 37039 until following a heavy general overall in the winter of 1985 became 37504. In early 1996 a further overhaul was undertaken ready for its use with European Passenger Services but the proposed sleeper services throught the channel tunnel naver came off so it became a freight engine once more after being bought by DRS. It is currently stored at Carlise Kingmoor.
