Alexander Eickhoff

My intent for this project was to do something different from my previous projects. Before i have gone for mystery, fear and tension and now I wanted to add some personality and humor. I wanted to make an expressive monkey face that would make the viewer smile. It was my hopes that this project would be something that anyone could relate to. I also wanted to create it in the most fun way possible.

In order to fulfill my plans i gathered a bunch of kitchen supplies and began to make the mouth which is in a way the focal point of the piece. i really wanted to capture the gesture of the smile of a monkey. I built around the face with stacks of bendy straws and sculpted the shape of the head from that. I added some aesthetic features such as the glass, mostly because i thought eyes would look cheesy but also because it adds to his chill nature. The chill nature is enhanced by his super sweet stache and beard, along with the cigarette/doobie(4/20). In closing i think i did a good job with the overall balance of the piece and also created a mood that is enlightening to the viewer.
