Zebra Swallowtail: Spring (inset) & Summer forms R0702 Shawnee State Forest, OH

Zebra Swallowtail (Eurytides marcellus) Spring & Summer form comparison.

Shawnee State Forest, Ohio, USA.

June 7, 2012.

The inset photo, taken almost exactly one month before the main photo (in virtually the same location), helps to demonstrate the two distinct variations of the Zebra Swallowtail.

The Spring form shows more white and more red, while sporting shorter "tails" on his "tux". Both forms are absolutely beautiful, but when you see the Summer form drift by with the (slightly) longer tails trailing behind... :-)
