Robber Fly (Laphria thoracica) female R1673 Manester ON HDv

Robber Fly (Laphria thoracica) female.

Manester Tract, Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada.

July 14, 2019.

In this series of images you can see how flexible this Robber Fly's "neck" is. She can turn her head to track anything flying by and quickly assess whether it's potential prey or not.

Note: an insect's "neck" region, whch connects the head to the thorax is called a cervix or veracervix.
