Zebra Swallowtails also bring back fond memories of my childhood. My father, who collected butterflies since he was a teenager, took the family camping to the Marion, Ohio area specifically to find Zebra Swallowtails. I was about 10 at the time.
Dad showed me how to find the caterpillars on fresh young leaves of small Pawpaw trees. We didn't see many of the adults, but we found quite a few caterpillars.
There's a healthy stand of Pawpaw at Mohican State Park, about 3.5 hours north of Shawnee in Ohio, but I've never seen a Zebra Swallowtail there, or found any caterpillars.
It's a rare and special day when I get to spend time with Zebra Swallowtails.
