09022 at Kingsferry Bridge

The Kingsferry Bridge on the Sheerness branch is one of the most distinctive railway structures in the South East. In this very unusual photograph 09022 is working a test train of Sheerness Steel wagons over the bridge. The idea was to use an 09 on trip workings from Sheerness to Sittingbourne rather than have to bring a main line loco down from Hoo each time, and the test was to see if the 09 could manage 6 wagons. It did it, but only just - and the idea was never moved forward.
