Matt Phillips says: In the States, it's easy to forget the DDR produced such superb system machines. I've always had an appreciation and curiosity for the Praktina in particular.

Matt Phillips says: From Asahiflex through the Spotmatic, the evolution of the Japanese camera industry from copy-cats to innovators is clearly apparent. The vestigial traces of a Leica screw-mount body still lingers in this early Pentax body.

Matt Phillips says: An Exakta VX was my first reflex camera, already antiquated when I owned it in the early 1970's. But the slow, deliberate handling really contributed to my burgeoning understanding of photography. Amazing that a design that dated back to the 1930's survived with little modification until the late 1960's.

Matt Phillips says: I have to admire Alpa for being both luxurious and completely contrarian: bench-made, customizable, endlessly adaptable and deliberately ponderous in operation.

Matt Phillips says: Was there ever a lovelier leaf-shuttered reflex? The Voigtlander Ultramatic CS sure looked like the future to me - a future that didn't really come to pass.
