Motorcycle Transportation
The first motorcycle closely followed the invention of a bicycle. In 1885 a German inventor attached a four stroke engine to a wooden bicycle frame and added two side wheels for stability the motor had a belt of sorts which would turn the rear wheel. This was not a sole means for transportation but rather a neat invention. As people began to see this invention they began to attempt new ways of doing a similar thing, this idea spread throughout Germany, France and Britain. In 1903 William Harley and his neighbor Author Davidson built the first Harley Davidson motorcycle, which led to the production of other motorcycles for sale to the public. In 1909 Harley Davidson produced the V-Twin motor which was a hit among many people because of it deep rumble sound. By 1914 the basic layout of what we call today a motor cycle was established; a motor between the front and rear wheels with a chain attaching to the rear wheel or sprocket. During World War I the motorcycle was greatly utilized because it was greatly mobile on undeveloped roads and was an easy way to relay messages. The motorcycle was more efficient than most other forms of transportation due to fuel economy and capabilities.
