3/365 1/100 Expect the unexpected
As some of you know we bought a "doer upper" (a late 1860s Victorian Semi) in June last year, and we are just about to start the renovation and building works. Part of the 365 (and all my 100) will be documenting this and probably hits the weekly theme of Commitment!
A slight loo disaster after Christmas has ended up with us having to remove the toilet and floor in the downstairs bathroom which was used by the previous and elderly owner who lived downstairs. The loo was propped on bits of (we discovered) rotten wood - see rectangular hole which was simply cut into the floor. The waste pipe had also been cut through the floor into the open sewer (see capping with plastic bag!).
The upside is that we didn't know these original victorian tiles were underneath a carpet and three layers of vinyl. We now have to work out a way to keep and restore them, as this area is becoming the walk in larder of a more open plan kitchen. And we have found another layer of white tiling behind the green.
The downside is that this room is now unusable, leaving us with one remaining bathroom toilet for 5 adults, including the always showering young people.
