General Lee's Panic

Unfortunately General Lee lacked confidence in the ability of the soldiers under his command.

 

As a result, in failing to press his advantage, Lee ceded the initiative to his British counterpart, General Charles Lord Cornwallis.

 

This results in a retreat ordered by Lee of the American Army.
