The winter at Jockey Hollow 1779-1780 was one of the coldest and snowiest on record during the American Revolution. When the troops arrived in Morristown in December, two feet of snow already blanketed the ground. By early January, there were 3 major storms that brought extreme cold and up to four feet more of snow. Before the winter ended Washington and his troops survived 27 snowstorms.
