American Revolutionary War Muskets

Introduced in 1769, this musket was the standard-issue infantry weapon of the British army at the start of the Revolutionary War.

Colonial storehouses contained large numbers of these guns, which patriots seized in the early months of the conflict.

The British musket, also called the Brown Bess, became the most common firearm used by American troops in the Revolution, despite weighing more than ten pounds.
