William Pitt Store in Williamsburg

This building is located on the northwest corner of Duke of Gloucester and Botetourt streets.

It initially operated as The Davidson Shop. In 1737, Robert Davidson, who once served as mayor of Williamsburg, operated an apothecary on the same lot as the store.

During the Revolutionary period William Pitt had a store on the same property. selling silk, women’s accessories, hardware, furniture, spices, swords and small arms. The new store is named after Pitt to align with Colonial Williamsburg’s focus on the Revolution.

Today it is Children’s Boutique with colonial clothes made for kids. From 18th-century hats to toys, games, and books—the William Pitt Shop offers a large selection of kid-friendly souvenirs and gifts to pique their interest. Avid readers will enjoy
