The crypt is beneath the high altar. This crypt contains the remains of the Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals of New York including McCloskey, Farley, Hayes, Spellman, Cook, and O'Conner . In addition other notable churchmen are bury here including Archbishop Fulton J, Sheen,and Monsignor Michael J. Lavelle.
