Ester Dome Road

I'm just a little ways downhill of the intersection of Henderson Road and Ester Dome Road. The intersection is just a little bit behind me and to my right. About three years ago, the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities "paved" Ester Dome Road up to the intersection behind me. What they really did was dump a bunch of gravel on the road, spray some oil on top of it, and then tamped it down a little bit. It's called "chip seal" and its the cheap way to "pave" a gravel road. But they didn't take into consideration the frost heaves and seasonal springs on Ester Dome road, both of which contributed to the development of potholes and such on the newly "paved" road surface. It makes for an interesting descent on a bike, let me tell you!

 

The Equinox Marathon Trail ascends Ester Dome a little ways in the woods off to the left. It parallels Ester Dome Road from almost at the bottom of the hill all the way up here to the intersection, where it then follows Ester Dome Road all the way up to the top
