French Journal Day 32 (Travel Diary Day 112)
(travel blog - strange-lands.com/daily/2012/11/04/the-angel-of-the-north/)
If you’re reading this you’re probably a Saturday night loser…like me.
We’ve spent 5 Saturdays in France. We haven’t been out socialising on any of these nights. You probably think I’m an exciting party animal who can drink four or more beers on a night out.
This is true, but shifting from one place to another and living in the middle of nowhere can play havoc with your social life. In fact, travelling in general can be a lonely game. You meet a lot of people, but you’re with few long enough to get to really know anyone.
We plan to change all of this by becoming the super-sociables. We know some rough directions to a few house that are occupied by potential friendlies. Some day soon we will enter said properties and accidentally bump into said friendlies and become friends. Eventually we shall share wine and beer over a nice meal.
Until then, I’m stuck with you lot.
Due to our lack of a social life, we’ve been watching a bit of night-time TV recently. Rachel convinced me to watch Marley & Me. I always resisted it because I knew the dog would die. I don’t want to get attached to a TV dog only to see it pass away. We watched it. It was sad. Marley died. I cried. What a flippin’ wimp.
Rachel always considered me emotionally stunted because I can’t seem to cry in real life situations. With films, on the other hand, I’m an emotional wreck. Braveheart’s a killer. When Mel the Racist shouts ‘FREEEEEDOM’ I well up every time. I suppose that’s quite sensitive though really – it confirms that I’m a modern man. Women love modern men.
There’s a bloke on the British X factor at the moment who doesn’t stop crying. I’m not like him.
Today’s Photo – The angel of the north
I took this photo while out with my brother. I had to photoshop out a chubby fellow at the foot of the angel. He was pulling off some sexy poses but it wasn’t my style.
I had to be quick with this one. The pinks and blue lasted only a few minutes, as is sometimes the case.
