Miracle windows

A fragment of the magnificent 'miracle' windows in Trinity Chapel in Canterbury Cathedral. Dating from 1250 AD, the windows depict the miracles attributed to the martyr Thomas a' Becket.

These four panels show a carpenter (William of Kellet) who has cut his leg with his axe (top left panel, note the pool of blood by his foot) in front of witnesses, the next panel (top right) shows him asleep being visited by St Thomas, the third (bottom left) shows him waking and discovering his healed leg, and in the final scene (bottom right) he tells the world, axe in hand.
