One of Australia's numerous basal angiosperms, and of interest to botanists as it is a member of the ANITA clade, the five most primitive families of flowering plants (Amborellaceae, Illiciaceae, Trimeniaceae, Austrobaileyaceae, Nymphaeaceae).
