Now, here's a fun project! Tim Prythero (www.timprythero.com) is an exceptionally talented Albuquerque-based sculptor who specializes in mind-boggling miniatures. The realistic detail in them is astounding, and the emotion they evoke is profound. The observer is instantly drawn into the scene, completely unaware of the open-jawed smile, perhaps accented with a hint of drooling saliva, that has transformed his or her normal, socially neutral, countenance.

Sort of like a drugged pooch ogling a slice of bacon.

His pieces just have that effect on people. If you want to see for yourself, go visit the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, where one of his masterpieces is on display in an acrylic case. He has a couple of pieces in their permanent art collection, and is represented by galleries all across the country. One of his earlier works, from the 1980's, recently sold for over $300,000. Now you're paying attention, huh?

Tim and I met as a result of my own recent exhibition at the Albuquerque Museum. It was apparent that we shared an appreciation of the aesthetic of deteriorating artifacts of human endeavor. One thing led to another, and we decided to put together a group of images using a selection of his pieces which I PhotoShop'd into real backgrounds, and treated the same as if I had encountered them on the street.

Remember as you look at these that the sculptures are all in the 12" to 18" range, blended into real-life, human-scale backgrounds (the exception being the Urban Life image, where Tim's piece is the background, and the downcast dude is the add-on).

We've done thirteen of these, and are in the process of putting together a signed, limited edition poster, as well as (hopefully) some exhibits around the country. A lot of work, but what fun!
