(k) The 58 movies I saw in 2014 :)

Only counting movies I saw for the first time. Faves: 12... tentatively. Best: Emptying the skies! Göteborg International Film Festival movies: 10… (6 of which were docus.) A seemingly unavoidable consequence of reading about almost each of the 500 movies in the programme. %D (And I marked way more than 10.)

WARNING: LIST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!

25-Jan-2014: 1. The invisible woman

Aaaaaaaand Ralph Fiennes showed up to talk about his movie. x) Our festival isn't chopped liver. 8)

Fave! Documentary on what being gay could be like in the olden days.

28-Jan-2014: 4. Ruin

Slow and boring romantic drama that mostly seemed to wanna wallow in its artsy cinematography. Two rapists received treatment, though. :D One with a knife, one with a brick! :)

29-Jan-2014: 5. As the palaces burn

31-Jan-2014: 6. Alcan highway

Docu. Finnish dude buys an ancient and adorable Alaskan truck, fixes it up, attaches an Airstream (*le sigh*…) to the back, and drives 4000 km to Vancouver Island.

1-Feb-2014: 7. Emptying the skies

Fave! Docu. SAD! Here’s a description from IMDB: ”Based on a magazine essay written by noted best-selling novelist Jonathan Franzen for 'The New Yorker' and widely republished around the world, 'Emptying the Skies' chronicles the rampant poaching of migratory songbirds in southern Europe. Songbird populations have been drastically declining for several decades, and a number of species face extinction imminently. The film explores the wonder of these tiny globe-flying marvels, millions of which are unlawfully slaughtered each year for large sums on the black market, and follows an intrepid squad of pan-European bird-lovers who risk their lives waging a secret war against poachers, disrupting illegal trapping and freeing as many birds as possible. Jonathan Franzen is executive producer of and featured in the film.”

2-Feb-2014: 8. Angered United

Docu about a girls' football team in a non-fancy part of Gothenburg. I couldn't find a proper poster for it so I threw something together using a promo pic. Fun fact: The pic was taken down the street from where I used to live! (Hjällbo.)

2-Feb-2014: 9. Two raging grannies (a.k.a. ”Shirley & Hinda”)

Fave! Must-see docu. Click here for the trailer! Two old ladies start reading up on infinite (hoho…) economic growth and meet with some experts, who explain how dumb the idea is. After sneaking into a fancy NYC financier party, one of the ladies starts yelling “WHY DO WE HAVE TO KEEP GROWING?!?!?!” For this, a nametag-less guard threatens her severely on the sly. What’re you scared of, guard… Did she have a point or something? ((:D

3-Feb-2014: 10. Of horses and men (a.k.a. ”Hross í oss”)

Icelandic drama. Starts out with a dude riding to visit his friend. On the way home, the friend's stallion seduces dude's mare. (Pictured.) Dude gallops home and shoots mare in the head. Immediately regrets it. Then some other stuff happens. :|

6-Feb-2014: 11. Twin sisters

Documentary about identical twins, adopted from China to northern Norway and Sacramento, respectively. The families keep in touch and the sisters are BFF. Eventually the Americans visit Norway and get some fresh air in their system. :B

I almost saw it at the film festival, but had to skip it due to scheduling problems… A couple of weeks later it aired on TV. Yea! (Not that I have a TV, but my folks do…)

26-Dec-2014: 56. Team America: World police

Fave! Even though I’M not against Hollywooders reading up on important stuff and using their massive power to spread the word. It’s not like everything you learn at Politician Academy is legit either. *COUGH* infinite growth *COUGH* And it might interest you to know that conflicts do increasingly get solved by Pussy talk. :)

29-Dec-2014: 57. Idiocracy

Fave!? I heard about it years ago… Probably from Rob Sheridan in 2008. :) ”Brawndo the Thirst Mutilator had come to replace water virtually everywhere. Water, the basic component of all life, had been deemed a threat to Brawndo's profit margin. The solution came during the budget crisis of 2330, when the Brawndo corporation simply bought the FDA and the FCC, enabling them to say, do, and sell anything they wanted...” :D

31-Dec-2014: 58. Maps to the stars
