The Shard, auch Shard London Bridge (vormals London Bridge Tower, auch Shard of Glass; von englisch shard ‚Scherbe‘, ‚Splitter‘), ist ein Wolkenkratzer in Londons Stadtteil Southwark, der mit 310 Meter von Juli bis Oktober 2012 das höchste Gebäude Europas war und derzeit das höchste Gebäude der EU ist. Der verzögerte Baubeginn erfolgte am 16. März 2009, die Einweihung war am 1. Februar 2013. Die endgültige Bauhöhe von 310 Metern wurde am 30. März 2012 durch Aufsetzen einer stählernen Spitze als letztes Bauelement erreicht.
The Shard,[a] also referred to as the Shard of Glass,[8][9] Shard London Bridge[10] and formerly London Bridge Tower,[11][12][13] is a 95-storey skyscraper in Southwark, London, that forms part of the London Bridge Quarter development. The Shard's construction began in March 2009; it was topped out on 30 March 2012[14] and inaugurated on 5 July 2012.[15] Practical completion was achieved in November 2012. The tower's privately operated observation deck, The View from The Shard, was opened to the public on 1 February 2013.[1][16][17]
Standing 309.6 metres (1,016 ft) high,[18] the Shard is currently the tallest building in the European Union.
