Wright, born two years after the end of the Civil War, was 67 when he designed this home. At that time you could build a typical 3 bedroom house for about $5,000. The Kaufmans thought to budget about $20,000 - 25,000. When all was said and done, Wright built the house for $150,000. Of that, $ 8,000 was his fee.
