UNMISTAKABLE large dark Kingfisher with a massive black bill and stiff shaggy crest, this is a male, and the female has a densely spotted black chest, Found at Kotu, and the whole river, can be difficult to spot when perched in a favorited leafy forest tree, however also often encountered sitting on a telegraph wire over the creek. The flight is very strong.
