Cool building artwork

We thought Sintra was going to be one of the highlights of our Portugal trip, instead it was the low point, for a number of weird reasons. After leaving the wildfire smoke filled Porto we were looking for clean air in Sintra - and we found it, but ...

We arrived at the bus station and took a Bolt (like a Lyft) to our apartment/flat. The driver got hopelessly lost - not all his fault since some roads have bollards that need a sensor to move up and do - for residents. He ended dropping us off about one half mile from our lodging, all uphill. Steeply uphill. We survived but we worked us a sweat.

We arrived at our flat and it wasn't bad but it wasn't that good either. Bathroom was the size of a small phone booth. I could barely turn around. Even sitting on the loo was a challenge. The room had no air circulation. We opened the windows to catch the breeze and all the mosquitoes considered that an open invitation. It's hard to sleep with some many of them buzzing in our ears.

We had planned to see a number of the Sintra sites, however, all of them were closed due to potential wildfire dangers - even the sights in the center of town. Clear skies, no smoke in the air, and places closed due to wildfire danger. That was an eye opener. Fortunately some of the sights actually did open the next morning so it wasn't a total loss.
