Ruins in the Chaco Culture National Historical Park

For some reason, Chaco Canyon has always been on my bucket list. my wife and I checked it out in April 2018 on the way to Texas. Chaco is in NW New Mexico, about 20 some miles off the main road in the area. The dirt road is mostly good, until some bone jarring miles at the end. We stopped at the Visitor Center, got some info, and went exploring on the loop road. This place has a fascinating history, being a major site starting about 1,200 years ago and flourishing for 300 years before something happened. We checked out several of the areas including Hungo Pavi, Chetro Ketl, and Pueblo Bonito. Even though the park is mostly ruins it was fascinating to see how people survived in such harsh conditions.
