dear, sweet smidge.
little smidge gave birth to four beautiful kittens in the early morning on mother's day. she took to her kittens immediately by cleaning them and letting them nurse.
i began to get worried when she was not eating or drinking. my mother and i were in constant communication with the vet and he suggested i bring her in with her kittens. this was the tuesday after mother's day.
she still had very heavy breathing so another x-ray was taken. 30 cc's of liquid were taken from her lung area.
she was given fluids and medication and was to stay the night to be monitored.
the next morning, i received a phone call to learn that all four kittens had passed away in the night and smidge was not doing well either.
with the vet's reccommendation, the difficult decision was made to put smidge to sleep.
it was one of the hardest things i had to do.
she was a truly sweet kitty and for the brief days she was with her kittens, she took better care of them then some human mothers i have seen.
i considered her my pet and for the too short time she was with me, she gave me nothing my kindness and a grateful look in her eyes.
please spay and neuter your pets unless you are a responsible and professional breeder. and if you see a stray, contact your local humane society to see if they can be trapped and fixed. some areas offer low cost spay and neuter programs.
i am truly heartbroken.
rest peacefully dear smidge with your little ones. you will be missed and always in my heart.
