there is a first time for everything...

it all started early 2011 when i (re)discovered shogi, the japanese version of chinese chess. there was this leftover piece of furniture, so i turned it into a shogi-board. some epic battles later i made a new field on the flipside, because the first try came out gritty. me and the other allOne guy freestyled over the original, made some hills 'n' rivers and stuff.

more epic battles followed.

then there was peace.

(aside some respectless coffee intermezzi)

then there was this remarkable day in early may...

i was busy spraying on objects and making tiny pieces of streetart with painted sticker and thinking of options to purchase black and white squareshaped sticker as basic material. when i spray i use tape to cut off the high precision shapes, and there was my revelation: there is no need to get sticker – i can use gaffer tape!

i headed to the hardware store and got me a black and a white example of >INSERT SPONSOR NAME< and...

…went on spraying.

no imediate taping action... but mentally there was...

a few days later, it was way past midnight, my workflow kept me sleepless. i felt i was on to something. and when i was already preparing for sleep it flashed my mind...

long story short: there was this allOne logo, based on the logo by the allOne inventor, focussing on the O equals L, all is one all one alone thought, and in my mind i popped from the ultimate level of allOne where all is one to the next level, the level of extremes, of dialectic, of binary information, and the O L logo split up into two mirrored images, one representing 0 and l, one representing O and 1, and while painting a sketch on the shogi board it all was clear and logic...

(for detailed information purchase the allOne digital adventure DVD-ROM, brimful with philosophy, mathematical derivations and digital artwork... and watch out for future gossip!)

this logo was the fundament of all following. i distilled the basic l1 logo, little later the 12bit heart derived and then the lettering for onelove came out, followed by fonts like sugarcandy.

but let's go back to early may:

finally i tried out taping for the first time ever on that very battlefield!

(well, there was an early pecedent, but that was before the allOne explosion)

the result we have here: an early logo prototype, my first piece of tape art, featuring some sicker-labels - my weapon of choice that time - and a shogi board on the flipside.

so the moral is... ...if i ever die famous, this will be the most precious picture i will have left behind.

i ain't saying it's a masterpiece - but it's a relic of my history.

also it comes with a designer bag full of designer tokens and a designer rule book.

(no worries, if you know chess a little, it'll be easy to learn - and it's way more fun! =)
