Leased Locos
Much of today's railroad motive power is owned by leasing companies. Shortly after the split of Conrail and subsequent expansion of CSX and NS into the northeast and midwest, leasers (or 'rent-a-wrecks') began showing up in increasing numbers on main lines.
Most of these locos are rebuilds with varied paint schemes and equally colorful pasts, many dating as far back as the fallen flags on the 1970s.
