Notes from Bill Gernert, 7/28/03:
Christmas party at U.S. Separation Center on Thompson Lane. Huge complex and had a large chapel for servicemen to worship in as they came in to be separated to civilian life.
Our Luther Leaguers would go out and do things for the children of servicemen. Pastor Gernert, his daughters, and son, William, Mary, Frieder(?) would hold Sunday School classes at different times. The Luther Leaguers would also help and had that as one extra project. It was so rewarding to see these kids respond and a great boost for our leaguers.
The Separation Center of the U.S. Government covered most of the land from Woodlawn Cemetery east to the railroad and front (east) on Thompson Lane. It had a main security gate and high fence. Property went back to railroad gulch.
