Cité radieuse Marseille
Le Corbusiers iconic housing complex in Marseille built 1947-1952. Also called Unité d'Habitation, a housing design principle the architect developed with designers Shadrach Woods and George Candilis. There are also buildings by the same principles erected in Berlin, Nantes and Firminy (in Loire).
The complex consists of 337 apartments over twelve stories. Each apartment lying on two levels, stretching from one side of the building to the other, with a balcony. On the third floor there is also a restaurant, a hotel and a bookshop. The top twelfth floor is a communal terrace with sculptural ventilation stacks, a running track, and a shallow paddling pool for children.
