New Orleans Public Belt RR, October 2013
The New Orleans Public Belt Railroad (NOPB) is a Class III switching railroad that serves the Port of New Orleans and connects with six major Class I railroads. Founded in 1908, the NOPB was created to provide neutral and impartial access to the Port of New Orleans for multiple railroads. Most of its locomotives are secondhand units leased or acquired from other railroads.
NOPB No. 3002 is a General Motors EMD GP40 locomotive, new to the Louisville and Nashville Railroad in 1967. It is seen here at Riverview Drive crossing near Audubon Park on 16th October 2013.
