Dukedog, Llangollen Railway, April 2009
A visitor from the Bluebell Railway, GWR 'Dukedog' 4-4-0 No. 9017 passes Pentrefelin with a Llangollen to Carrog train on 20th April 2009.
The locomotive, originally 3217 Earl of Berkeley, was built in 1938 as one of the 3200 Class comprising former Duke Class boilers on Bulldog Class frames. It spent its entire working life on the former Cambrian Railway based at Aberystwyth and Machynlleth from where it was withdrawn from BR service in 1960. Following a period in store at Oswestry, it was moved to the Bluebell Railway in 1962.
The third vehicle in the rake is LNER Thompson Buffet Car No. E1706E, one of two lounge buffet vehicles built in 1948 for use on the Flying Scotsman service. It is owned by the Thompson Heritage Buffet Association and is now resident at the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway.
